What happens on install day?
From network approval to handover, here's what to expect when our team arrives to install your solar or battery.
Knowing what to expect makes install day easy. Here's how a typical solar or battery installation runs with our team, from the paperwork beforehand to the handover at the end.
Before install day
- Site check and design. We confirm roof layout, switchboard condition, battery location and cable routes, and finalise the design.
- Network approval. We apply to your electricity network (Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy or Essential Energy) for approval to connect. Some systems are approved quickly, others take longer, and the network may set an export limit.
- Scheduling. Once approval is in, we book a date that suits you and let you know who's coming.
On the day
Arrival. Our own licensed electricians arrive, walk through the plan with you and confirm where everything is going.
Roof work. For solar, the team sets up safety equipment, installs mounting rails and fits the panels, then runs cabling to the inverter.
Inverter and battery. The inverter, and the battery if you're getting one, are mounted and connected. Any switchboard work, such as new protection devices, is completed.
Power off. We need to switch your power off for part of the day to connect safely to the switchboard. We'll tell you roughly when and for how long, so you can plan around fridges, computers and anyone working from home.
Testing and commissioning. We test the system, set up the inverter and battery settings, including any export limits or backup reserve, and connect the monitoring.
How long does it take?
Most standard home solar installs are completed in a single day. A battery added to existing solar is often done within a day as well. Larger systems, complex roofs, switchboard upgrades or three-phase work can take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeframe in advance.

Handover
Before we leave, we'll show you how the system works, how to read the monitoring app, what the isolators and safety labels mean, and what happens in a blackout. Ask anything, there are no silly questions.
After install day
- Compliance paperwork. In NSW, we lodge a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) and the network paperwork.
- Meter changes. Your retailer arranges for your meter to be reconfigured or replaced if needed so exports are measured. This can take some time, and your system may be set to limit exports until it's done.
- Incentives. Eligible STCs and battery STCs are applied as a discount on your quote, so there's usually nothing extra for you to claim.
- Warranty documents. We send your documents and serial numbers for your records.
Now's also a good time to review your plan. See choosing an electricity plan with solar and a battery.
How to prepare
- Clear access to the switchboard, roof access points and battery location.
- Move cars out of the garage if the battery is going there.
- Secure pets.
- Let us know about anything that needs power during the shutdown, like medical equipment.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be home on install day?
It helps to be there at the start and for the handover, and we'll need access to the switchboard and any internal areas. Talk to us if that's tricky.
How long will my power be off?
Usually for part of the day while we connect to the switchboard. We'll give you an estimate in advance.
Why isn't my system exporting yet?
Your meter may need to be reconfigured or replaced by your retailer's metering provider, which can take some time after installation.
Who installs the system?
Our own in-house licensed electricians. We don't use subcontractors.
